1What is the most common vascular disease?
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a common vascular disorder that eventually leads to leg cramps and pain when walking. The most common causes of PAD are smoking, a cholesterol-rich diet or family history of cholesterol problems, diabetes and hypertension, a sedentary or inactive lifestyle and genetics.

  • Eat a healthy diet low in fat and cholesterol
  • Quit smoking and stop eating processed food
3Do I need a referral?
Yes. A referral from your GP or another specialist is necessary.
4Which medical aids are accepted?
All South African registered medical aids are accepted as well as some international providers. Please contact the practice for more information.
5Will I need to stay in hospital to have my procedure?
Yes, but this depends on what type of procedure you are having. The majority of endovenous interventions only require an overnight stay.
